Its funny to think that I sat down on Friday with the complete intention of getting rid of any bad feelings about TransFOURmers, and yet somehow, I predicted the future. Friday night I went to the theater, for the first time in over a year, risking Cincinnati Bedbugs so that I could enjoy my favorite Sci-Fi franchise. Needless to say… an hour and a half later, I was ready to head home, put my clothes in the dryer and be done.
My first sign that things were going array was the fact that I have only picked up two AOE figures… Grimlock and Scorn. Those two figures have not completely blown my skirt up, and I have not been compelled to pick up anymore. Then as I was checking out the Botcon coverage, I found that IDW is not providing any support for the movie. Actually they have decided to not touch the Bayverse and focus their energy toward their G1 books (please note I am not complaining). But still I tried to hold up hope. I actually avoided the trailers and any possible spoilers that would have been included. I have not overly researched any story plots but tried to keep my pallet cleansed so that I could be surprised by the actual movie, and stayed out of any of the negatives, but here I am, ready to spoil yours if you feel you need it.
So if you do not want to know about anything in the movie, please stop reading this until you have seen it. I am welcome to comments and arguments, however, this is my opinion. Actually please provide me with counterpoints… I want to be brought back into the light.
When the movie starts off it actually does exactly what I did not want it to do. The first scene starts by completely wasting Ratchet on screen. I’m pretty sure this was trying to show that this is not a reboot, however it is just a new trilogy, that is entirely different. I can’t believe that they took him out in such a fashion though because he was the last link to the original movie from ’07. I know there is still bumblebee, and Optimus Prime, but lets face it… at this point, Bumblebee is the Rick of this series. It focuses on him, and he isn’t going anywhere soon. On the other hand, noting PERMINANT will EVER happen to this Optimus Prime. They will continue to “kill” him for a few minutes when the find it helpful. Ratchet represented the old kingdom… and even though the team no longer has a medic, he just had to go. I could see getting rid of the old trilogy by focusing on the death of Leadfoot, which could have served as a great way to serve this point, but keep Ratchet as either a hostage or “damsel in distress” to motivate the Autobots to go in. Honestly Ratchet would be a perfect background character and perfect for the background for the next two movies. He would serve a purpose without being needed polygons in the battlefield. After the battle is done he would be perfect to explain who patched up the bullet holes etc. but instead he is just bolts laying on the ground.
Then we enter into the introduction of the new human cast. I have to say… originally this worked out incredibly well, however I felt some sort of connection to Cade and his daughter… the boyfriend left me with a “Michael Bay just wants to pay an homage to Armageddon. Also looking back to the 07 movie, I Remember leaving with Megan Fox becoming my new Hollywood crush, which sadly still stands today… thumbs and all. Cade’s daughter did not have that same effect on me. I admit she is quite attractive, however maybe it was the emphasis of how she was 17, maybe even that combined with the fact that I now have an 18 year old at heart that just did not repeat in this movie.
“Lucky Charms” had to be a major issue for me in the movie. He really was entered as a great “action hero” ready to run from anyone to save his “boo’ (yes I just got GHETTO in this piece). However, as the movie progressed he became just another hang on. His helpfulness really took a sharp downward turn whenever he was not behind the wheel of a car, and even faded into complete cowardice in the Cybertronian vessel. It was quite embarrassing, but somehow he earned Cade’s respect by pissing his pants and taking cover… I guess Cade just really respected how he handled the stick… in the cars people.
He’s not so magically delicious
Cade himself was somewhat of an arguable point for me. I understand that Marky Mark will be well Marky Mark, but I hoped it would be turned down. Where I did not see the guy that I quite enjoyed in Ted, he did still let some of his old self shine through his lines. I feel that this movie entirely focused on him more than any other character. I understand that the 07 movie did the same with its focus on Sam, however, that was nothing more than a plot device to enter you into the conflict. This seemed to be Cade’s story entirely. As I said before, It made me take the fatherly stance in response with his daughter. Also I feel that the boyfriend was entirely useless. Also as you watch the film, in each action sequence, you typically seen Cade firing his Cybertroninan sword, rather than these amazing robots battle it out. The sad part is, by the middle of the 07 movie, I actually gave a shit about Sam, in AOE, I just wanted to see what everyone else was doing.
What Michael Bay did to Formers Fans
I have to say the only human that I really completely enjoyed was T.J. Miller’s character. However unlike Sam’s college roommate, T.J. was a casualty of the movie again wasted as if he were Ratchet.
It was in his Rider… listen to T.J. Millers’ Standup… I promise you will laugh
Then we get to meet the Autobots. I have to say that this group of movie bots could not be further move away from my views of the “good guys” that I have ever seen. My first major issue was the fact that they implement the Optimus Prime SOS signal, and these bots gather together, lets say sixty miles away from Prime and decide to hold up in a mountain and hide rather than respond to the SOS. Well other than Ratchet, who was somewhere near an ocean port, trying to help Prime, but we all know what happened to him.
Speaking of Optimus Prime, I have to say that the Bayverse Prime has completely left the character other than a few visual keys. If I remember correctly, the first words we hear him say, other than a distress signal is DIE… I will KILL YOU! Yes, I understand that he was indeed wounded in battle, however he continued to wave his rifle at the humans even after he realized that they were not Lockdown. I have always been a very strong supporter of Optimus Prime. Quite often Prime is the first figure that I pick up from a line. I love what he stands for and the character that he has become, however this is not Optimus. I feel that the G1 Prime, why more often that not resonates through each incarnation has left this body. In DOTM he destroyed Megatron, at point blank range, after giving Sentinel the Que-De Gras. This action alone made me realize that this is not my Optimus Prime. I have heard the argument that he needs to be edgier. He can’t be the hippy prime that was introduced in the original series. Todays youth needs a hero that kicks ass, not one that gets walked over.
Personally I argue the complete opposite. Firstly G1 Prime is far from being a hippy. He is the complete opposite. He is a compassionate leader that is full of character, something that I feel kids need as a role model. Secondly he always looks for the non-violent alternative action, but he is not afraid of action. In the 1986 movie you see Prime land on Autobot City on earth. His base has been ransacked, sieged, and his best friends have been slaughtered at the hands of the Decepticons. When he arrives on he exits his ship and goes head first into battle. He intricately takes out the whole trail of opposition on his way to his nemesis. With the precision of a surgeon he halts the siege, without complete outright murder. He than stands to Megatron. The battle is hard fought, however Prime then has the upper hand. Megatron pleads for help, stalling the fight so that he can get his hands on another blaster, and Prime reasons with him. I fully believe that had Megatron surrendered at this point, Prime would have accepted the surrender, and continued as a true leader would, as oppose to Bay Prime who would have destroyed his spark. For me Prime is an essential role model, however Bayverse destroys this. Bay Prime is a warmonger who just wants to kill all enemies. He has also turned on the human race. Call me a G-Onner however I do not believe that Prime would turn on Humanity in respect to Decepticon dealings no matter what we had done. He takes ownership of his race’s battles, he won’t let humans be taken over by Decepticon command, no matter what happens to him. Then you enter the last battle on earth, where he distracts his attention from Lockdown in order to place a single round into Kelsey Grammar’s character. Little bit of over kill Prime? I am pretty sure Cade should be able to hand the old man!
Crosshairs is another “badass” bot that was introduced. He just reminds me of Hot Fuzz, and basically he is only around so that he can take part in all the badass cop movie action. He also is always ready to completely walk away from the Autobot path and continue alone, but for some reason he feels the need to be leader of the rag tag crew.
You do know there are more guns in the country than there are in the city.
This now leads me into Drift. I know this has been addressed before but please tell me how the character that speaks Chinese is based off the look of a Samurai which is very Japanese and has a strong Japanese accent. I loved how quickly he turns on his life saving nature… “you must always try all other avenues prior to battle… its dead now.” Also I will say that it was cool to introduce a triple changer into the movie, however it is completely an afterthought. He was made into a triple changer just to sell a few more toys. My major beef with that is simply half of the scenes were “get the humans away” and they shove them into a car. All that I could think was Drift is a HELICOPTER… FLY THEM THE FUCK AWAY!!!
The only new bot that I really enjoyed was Hound. He was very much there to replace Ironhide who had been wasted in DOTM, but he seemed to add a new dynamic to the movie. As a matter of fact he really repeated Irohide’s Cannon scene with Sam. There isn’t much to say about him, other than I actually enjoyed what he brought to the screen.
Also I like the continued inclusion of Brains. I wish Wheelie was still with him but either way it was nice to have him back. I actually enjoyed them, just not much to analyze.
Now we reach the introduction of Galvatron. So as Hasbro joked about in the panel at Botcon, the worst kept secret of AOE. Surprisingly when they reuse parts from Megatron, he takes over the body that they used his parts to build!!! His first transformation sequence (and I will touch on that in a minute) when he takes robot form all that I could think about was the 07 Movie when bone crusher transformed. I have to review the tape, but I am pretty sure that it was verbatim of Galvitron’s attack. Way to reuse wire frames ILM!
I swear I have seen this before
As far as Decepticons, I have to say that having basically 2 and a ton of drones seemed to work well. And they even made it so that transformation was not needed what so ever. I have to say for a forth movie, ILM really took the cheap way out. Whenever Drift transformed in or out of helicopter mode it was continently either off screen or hidden. The same thing happened here with the Decepticon Drones, except now they change form in an amazing wasp nest swirl effect.
The only real villain that I enjoyed from this film was Lockdown. He actually gave a nice outsider mentality that really gave a great homage to the Animated! Incarnation. It was nice to see third non-affiliated faction entered into the mix. Along with Hound, Lockdown may be the only introductions that I enjoyed in movie.
The highlight of the movie was supposed to be introduction of the Dinobots into the movie audience. They had some great setup points to try and explain their significance and presence into the movie and then in the amazing way that Bay does things all these ideas were thrown to the wind and they were just present in the ship that the Autobots had taken over. Firstly how convenient that not only was prime in prison next to them but also that the trophy case was essentially an escape pod. That was just perfect. So barring their introduction, and the presence of a metal T-Rex in the opening scenes, they are introduced, they trounce some over-powered Decepticon drones, and then they run away in the middle of Hong Kong at the end of the movie. This was the major draw… all publicity of the movie is based on Optimus Prime riding Grimlock. Every store I walk into where Bumblebee once was I now see is now replaced with Grimlock, and they are given no real story, but are just broken wild animals that are trained in a matter of five minutes… great story writing. Then at the conclusion, they just run away into the amazing abandoned land of China… where only 20 billion people will be able to find them. To continue my point… there is a scene where Strafe has bumblebee fighting a drone on his back. The polygons of the Computer Generated scene was so hard to follow that everything just blended together. All that I could imagine was that I was back to Windows 98 and watching my Flowerbox Screen Saver.
Dinobots Fight Scene
Needless to say I was not impressed. I find the collector side of me still partially yearning for the movie characters of AOE, but I am battling it. I really have hit a point where I just need to look toward my Generations and legends figures, at least Hasbro knows the collectors will not be happy with AOE. I really wish that I had just stayed in my own great G1 Universe that was setup in IDW… and I really wish that I could have reacted to TransFOURmers like they did, and not even recognize that it happened.

Transforming Perspectives:
So Age of Extinction was released last night, and I have to say that I was not planning nor did I attend a midnight showing of the new film. Its actually funny, I can remember vividly the horrible feeling I had in the pit of my stomach as my flight was cancelled to Botcon 2007. I remember running out to pick up my two tickets for the absolute first showing of the original Bay Movie. I have to say my whole attitude toward the Bay movies has changed though. For the first movie… they had me hook line and sinker. I was in for everything. Each trailer I studied and inspected closely. I took part in all the available media events, including being the first in line for when the Sector 7 trailer rolled in front of my theater. I would do anything to catch a glimpse of what was about to happen. What was funny is the whole time I soaked up all this information, I was completely hating on all of the designs. I can honestly tell you that when I sat in that theater seat, I was excited, but entirely prepared to be completely let down. When Blackout transformed at the military base, all of my expectations were destroyed, and I was completely indulged into the movie franchise. However, the Bayverse has become stale to me. Revenge of the Fallen and Dark of the Moon have sadly become nothing more that summer popcorn flicks. Worse than that the Bay Optimus Prime has completely destroyed the vision of what Optimus stands for in the end of Dark of the Moon. Also the complete lack of interest in keeping characters who could become cool has been ridicules. In the first movie, when Megatron kills Jazz, it actually was somewhat powerful and held meaning. Granted Bonecrusher was a who cares fatality, but the little time we knew Jazz, it was powerful. It meant something. By DOTM all that has been lost. You see them just lay waste to Ironhide for no apparent reason. Then they have Sam take out Starscream because for some unforeseen reason he became the focal point of all the movies. Finally when you reach the execution scene, all power has been removed from character death. They waste characters who basically have no audience reaction except perhaps to tell you their name, and then Bumblebee. Please folks, you know that Bay won’t murder his checkbook… therefore Bumblebee is spared. I have to say that going into Age of Extinciton tonight I really was not thinking that I was going to see in on opening day but I have a scheduled time to check it out. I am somewhat interested to see what will happen in the new trilogy but feel that I am partially seeing this movie in the theater out of brand loyalty. I hope that once again Bay can surprise me and let me leave the theater with complete satisfaction… for some reason I believe that I am going to be let down.

Trans4mers
The day is finally about to commence. Actually some peeps are probably anxiously perched waSoiting for the cases of Transf... Trans4mers merch to start rolling on their way home. I have heard about the craziness, the Wal*Marts ignoring the street date... and frankly the bitching when a company refuses sale basically because they aren't allowed to sell it. Some people actually work there for a living... not everybody is like the who cares, minimum wage teenager just stocking shelves while texting his girlfriend... trying to get a sultry picture. I really am a bit excited for the new figures, for two reasons: 1) I am really tired of looking at bare shelves 2) I am ready to see all the people bitch about how they paid 30 bucks for a Canada special bumblebee that will clog up all of the shelves, creating the new yellow plague, that will now be known as the new black plague. Lets look at our offerings now... just to see what carrots will be dangled in front of our noses. Deluxe Wave 1: Bumblebee- Let me say this... I picked up a battle blades bumblebee when I found him at Ollies, and I was actually sad that I waited that long for him. I am tired of the movie bumblebees, and I don't think in even bought a single one from Dark of the Moon.. I just didn't need another concept. Apparently Hasbro watched my collection and took note to finally make an actual movie change to force my hand. I will probably end up picking this guy up, however nothing makes me want to run to line now for him. Crosshairs- This guy has intrigued me since the Super Bowl trailer. Is this the Wrecker bot type we expected when we saw the umm WRECKERS? maybe. I have to say the whole trench coat gambit-esk attire is kind of catching my eye... however the look leaves something to be desired. Again nothing I am running out to purchase. Slug- I have to say the dino mode looks interesting and he will be a definite buy, however again not tempting first day bait. The dinos look cool, but still I want to see MY DINOS back in generations. I love Grimlock, and have all the figures that Hasbro has shown our G1 KING of, however, my FOC needs his troops to command. I know third party is giving us a set, however I want my cheaper official in somewhat scale option. I need my slug to be a Slag... profanity or not... not his barillium bologna. Scorn- n Another must have Dinobot, however not a first day drawl. I will have the complete set of seven, however I am in no rush. This guy will be the seasium salami of my movie shelf... and I will have the complete club sandwich, I just will be far from first... maybe wait for those rainy day sales. Voyager/Leader Ok, so here I could break these two down into one, however instead of broadening the line immedeatly, Hasbro in their infinite wisdom decided to make the initial leader and voyager waves the same. Grimlock- I have o say that I am probably looking at the voyager of this figure. The chrome addition on the leader is unneeded and not really attractive to me. His voyager weapon my leave something to be desired, however I could deal with it until a shapeways provides the armory. Optimus Prime- I really don't care to much for either of these. The only kicker is the leader provides the gun for my DOTM Megatron which is much needed, so with that... does anyone want to donate the shotgun to a needy collector? Sadly release date is upon us and though I am excited I am not running out to the stores tomorrow. They will eventually find a way into my house, but if I do enter a Target tomorrow, I really hope that I am surprised by a Swerve or Cosmos... I guess that makes me a G-ONNER, but to that I say... why do you think they afforded Michael Bay in the first place... I bought Armada, Energon and Cybertron... I bought the hell out of them... Respect and appreciate the G1 that made formers what they are

Beast Hunters: Closing Thoughts and Loose Ends
Firstly I wanted to say that I am loving the fact that Hasbro has made my pickiness much much more easy. I think it is currently hilarious that the simplified deluxe wave is commanding such a high premium on eBay. I am not as surprised that the Terrorcons are doing as well, however its the Bumblebee and Smokescreen that are completely surprising me. These two figures received the most hideous response and when the figures were not available, everybody runs to the eBay. I have to say that these are two figures that I am definitely not missing. I would have enjoyed to have a larger Abominus, however my Target and standard versions are a nice fit, even though I stray away from the cyberverse figures. The real miss on Hasbro's part was to release Predaking and Optimus again in the voyager price point. One of those two slots would have been perfect for the Insecticon mold from Beast Hunters. I picked up two of these at the incorrect color scheme, and would have loved to have the correct in scale insecticons to my army, but hindsight is 20 20, and at least I am not involved in the crazy ebaying. I am however happy to say that my Beast Hunters and generally Prime is now a closed book in my collection. Thanks to some deep Target clearance discounts, I picked up the last few figures that I had my eye on. I must say that the Beast Fire Predaking is an impressive figure at the 12 dollar price point I scored it for, however I deeply regret those who dropped 60 on this bad boy. I feel like it is incredibly simplified, and though it is nicely in scale, could have used a bit more complex design. This past weekend I also picked up the final Predacons that I had my eye on. For the original price of a Darksteel, I scored Mr. Darky, Sky-Linx, as well as the Cryo-Fire Predaking... a great throw-back to Cryotek, especially both of them being Target Exclusives. All three of them have yet to be released from their plastic prions, but will be, soon enough. I will hopefully have some more on these three soon, as well as more on the blog, so please keep checking back!

Action Features Log
Okay... I know that this is not completely Transformers related, however I wanted to do a solid favor for my friend James. He and his friend Mike have a little podcast called Action Features... and even though they don't always talk about Transformers... I still wanted to post this here... that way it would be available to the Action Features audience.
Action Features is a podcast that often has a focus on many of the things that I am overly interested in. They keep me up to date on current pop culture, and often dive back into collecting history with cartoon theme songs, and reviews on cartoons that have long since became standard for our DVD shelves. Even though Mike once believed Slag and the Dinobots to be Decepticons, I can agree with James' son Blaze's outlook on Transformers 4 and just walk away.
I have listened to each podcast that Action Features have released, multiple times and created this log. I tried to keep track of many things, and feel that I successfully captusred all of the foods eaten in 52 episodes, as well as the references to fighting wolves, star worlds, amazing singing talent of Mike and James and the many, many, many, names of Chatting Tainters, and many many syllables of the Ahrnold (Schwartzegger) costar Tia Carararararararararararararararar......ara.
I hope that you enjoy the log and I challenge the listeners to try and complete the list. There are some categories that I did not start noting until it was too late, so I challenge fans to trace the conversations about Ahrnold, or Sylverster Stallone.
Now I am out like a bag of Cheez-Its infront of Mike and James.
Thanks
Brendan

Transforming Toys into new toys...
So it seems like the bane of many Transformers fans' existence is the constant influx of repaints that we seem to get. I remember when I first got into the hobby that I was a little bit disheartened when I found myself buying the third, fourth, and even fifth repaint of that RID Prowl or Beast Machines Jetstorm mold. I didn't know why Hasbro kept trying to sell me the same stuff, but I kept buying it all. Then it finally came to me. This is the way that Hasbro can keep our fandom alive. Unlike the Masters of the Universe, G.I. Joe, or many other basic action figure lines, Transformers do not lend themselves to the ability to take a leg from guy a and head from guy b, and basically rebuild a new figure from what already exists. Instead we get basic repaints, sometimes with new heads, sometimes not, but its how they fill our line. Now, I recognize that fact, and have backed off my anti-repaint mindset.
Firstly there are always those repaints that we not only want but demand. Each and every time we see a new Starscream mold, we start yelling for two if not five to seven different paints of this bad boy. I find it funny that even in a group that gets upset over the amount of repaints instead of new product, we completely turn a 180 each and ever seeker mold that happens to be released. Also I find myself salvating over the possibility to complete my set each time.
Not only do the seekers provoke that coveting collector nature but also there is always the whole Optimus Prime release. I don't care which Prime mold is released I always seem to be a sucker for the white Ultra Magnus repaint, and definitely jump whenever I can get my hands on a Nemesis Prime or Scourge they can throw at me. I even add extra points whenever the basic white repaints gain their exo-suit, I just can't get enough of these.
I even remember when the record seemed to be broken with common themes and tropes in the Transformers cartoons. Each story was more of the same when RID started. Megatron starts off as the big baddie, then the ends up being "destroyed" only to return in the next couple of episodes he arrives now reformatted as Galvatron. When RID did it, I was happy for the bit of nostalgia. However then in Armada the same string of events took place... leading that Megatron to find himself reformatted into his purple Galvatron namesake. When Enegon began, again with a Megatron I was a little bit perturbed about the foreshadow of him once again reformatting, until I saw the toy. I remember being so excited to get my Energon Megatron, complete from Wal*Mart with the nice code for the online Energon game. However the mold was screaming Galvatron... not just any Galvatron, but G1 Galvatron. I was chomping at the bit. When the reformatting finally happened on the show I was relieved, knowing that my repaint was in the works... and I would soon have a great Galvatron for my shelf.. One that seemed to do the G1 character more justice that even his G1 mold... especially from the original, no reissue color scheme.

Recently the Beast Hunters has kept me away from most of the line. I have purchased one of each of the new dragon molds, however I have very much strayed away from the partial remolds and Beast Hunter versions the Bots and Cons. However there was one repaint that completely sucker punched me into action. I remember the first time that I read about the possibility for the Sharticon Megatron and was strangely intrigued. I actually decided against buying this bad boy... and then I went to my cousin's house and saw his sitting outside of the package. Its strange. I feel like this figure really doesn't photograph well, however I feel that it is a strangely beautiful rendition of the mold. The teeth around the neck stick out so amazingly and is gives great homage to the Sharkticon, while keeping one of the stand outs of the early Prime mold.

The Beast Hunters mold seemed like they kind of dropped the ball for a perfect rendition for a character. They wanted a Beast Hunters Dreadwing, and even though he was already a hard to find voyager, they decided to go for the deluxe treatment. I saw the figure a couple of times in retail, but have still not picked up a copy for the collection. The only reason that I would purchase this bad boy is for a personal repaint custom.... taking Dreadwing into a Jhaixus. I believe that I saw this custom on TFW, so sadly it is not an original idea. However I feel that this could be a perfect repaint, and even dropped into the Generations line for a reuse of this incredibly nice looking mold!

My faith has been restored!
I have to say... I have known that I have been gone from the blog for a while, but let me tell you that the last year has been a year of changes. Last December the pride of my life came into the world, my little girl Parker was born. This year, she has exceeded the odds and has amazingly kept up with milestones, beating insurmountable odds, however, this site is about my other obsession: Transformers, so I will save the Parker story for another day. She has however made me look at my collection and collecting habits and has helped me put everything back into perspective.
Sadly, I have to say that the year started off quite slowly for me as far as Transformers has been concerned. I have found more passes this year than I have had in a very, very long time. The first Transformers Movie line pretty much killed my completest mentality (I am a sucker for a good head mold, that is what makes or breaks the figure for me... after I purchased the third single eye- wanna be video camera drone head, I was done). This year though really let me leave most stuff on the shelf. Prime had shifted to the Beast Hunters line, and as I am sucker for show characters, I can say that there was only one Autobot that I HAD to have... and after I purchased and then I got the new voyager Prime, I figured that I was done with my Autobots for Prime. I was surprised by the Prowl and did manage to get him for Christmas, however, I refused to purchase any Beast Hunter versions of the characters that I already owned in their show accurate versions.
Metroplex has completely re-energized my collector mentality. I am fully excited and am jumping at all of the IDW deluxe figures. I am finally tackling my half box full of my TF comics that I still have to read. I am thinking about what all I could do on this blog. I am excited and wanting to start blogging about my collection again, and ready to start rediscovering my collection.
I feel that with the Bay movies my collection became somewhat stale. I have a group of figures that I have barely tinkered with, and want to rediscover them. I fell like for a while there I was trying to just pull everything that I could and I know that a lot got lost in the shuffle. I am planning to revisit my cases. I am going to organize them and get they ready for the impending move my wife and I are starting to talk about. It really is nice to have a passion for my passion again. Before the Trilling began I really was starting to try to figure out why I was still doing it. Thank you Hasbro... please keep up the good work. I was worried about the new simplified theory floating around, but seeing what the two tiered approach did to Star Wars, those worries have all gone away. I am looking forward to the collector tier of Transformers coming out this year, and at least now I don't have to worry about trying to "catch them all."
As I wrap this post up... just one more pic of the amazing Emilano design, looking forward to more of them arriving this year!
I did however pick up the Beast Hunters Dragons, well at least one of each mold. I was excited to see how they would be used, and was not overly surprised to find that this whole toyline was pretty much fiction neglected. I may still pick up Sky-Linx and Darksteel but that is only because they appeared in the Predacons rising finale, but I already have the mold and feel that I have already experienced the molds.
I did break my no-Cyberverse rule however, for three sets. Firstly I loved the Prime cartoon, and when I found that Hardshell was getting a figure I felt that I had to have it and troop build him. This plan ended after 2 Hardshells were acquired, feeling that he was a bit too small for the rest of my prime collection, however I feel that this was a huge win as a Transformer figure all together. I really am happy with him. He is one of the only figures that I would jump on if he was added to the new "Cyberverse exploded" toyline that is now starting to appear. I would jump on 3 or 4 of these bad boys in show accurate colors, at the voyager price point. I am drooling thinking about the display of 4 insecticons with my army of 6 Vehicons standing in front of them... so Hasbro Please... Please... make this wish come true.
My second Cyberverse splurge was for the Terrrorcon releases. I am a sucker for Gestalts. The only G1 figures that I have on display is my Gestalt collection, so when I heard Abomunus was seeing a new release I hopped on it. Currently I have four of the five still mint on card until Rippersnapper is found, but I also have the Target boxed set so I could get the full experience.
The third splurge started after the announcement of Swerve and Cosmos coming this year, and I had to backtrack to find my smaller G1 Cyberverse Prime and Bumblebee. I still need to find Megatron and Starscream, but I am rater impressed with these figures. I do think the smaller size, and ease of transformation would help try to capture kids back into the action figure isle. They are still not for me, but I will pick up my G1 characters and continue to grow my Chug Collecion.
My Classics are really where Hasbro has won me over this year, after a lackluster start. The year started a scavenger hunt for the War for Cybertron figures. They were nice but suffered from the smaller size. Really they make my previous WFC deluxe figures look ginormous. Also with such anticipation for a Shockwave figure to fit in that line, I love the WFC Shockwave, however my Energon Shockblast still stands next to my Classics Megatron. Then distribution was so backed up with the Optimus, Shockwave, and Jazz wave that it was almost impossible to find wave 2 and a full Bruticus or Ruination.
When Classics returned, they did so amazingly with the introduction of the Thrilling 30. I still find myself staring at the Classics Springer, who was almost the figure of the year. Hasbro really did something with Springer that they should have a couple of years ago, but late is better than never. Springer restored my faith in Hasbro. I remember in late 2012 hitting the forums and overpaying for a GDO Springer.... just so I had a sword for my Botcon Springer... but still it didn't quite fit. I was remorseful that I didn't buy the Warbot Defender. Hasbro wasn't going to release the figure that I wanted. Then the Thrilling Springer arrived. The proof is in the secondary market people. This is exactly how Hasbro needs to combat the 3rd party dilemma. Warbot has plummeted in price... and it happened almost over night as Springer hit shelves in Walmart and Target.
My faith in Hasbro has been completely restored and I find myself now not even looking at much 3rd party now because of one absolutely amazing design thanks to Emilano S!
Metroplex was a gift to me from my amazing wife for Christmas. He stands taller than Fort Max and is so solid that I can't believe it! This is the type of thing that I have been waiting on Hasbro to provide for us... and they finally have! I won't lie... if there were a Metrotitan release of him, I would be more than willing to shell out another $125 to add him to my collection. I am hoping that Metro is going to start a trend for the Transformers product line. I really hope that we will be seeing a Trypticon in coming years, and hopefully Max and Scorponok again!Metroplex has completely re-energized my collector mentality.
